Ear Piercing

Ear Piercing

This past weekend we took my daughter, who is about to be three, to get her ears pierced. It was quite the event, and I’m glad I had my camera along for the ride.

It was hard to watch her cry, but it was good to not only capture the moment but to pass out hugs in the aftermath. Cute kid!

I don’t know how you stood it – sure I pierced the girls’ ears but they were both younger than 2 years old so they forgot quicker. We were still in Montgomery and we moved just after Daphyne’s 2nd Birthday. It just breaks my heart to know that she was in that much discomfort. I had a can of freezing stuff and I used a potato behind the ear to grab the needle as it passed through with a string on it. I only had problems with one ear out of four so that is not bad. The tears came with the last ear for only a minute. And it was both of them cause one heard the scream and saw the tears and both cried together for each other. Seeing Kaylee’s pain saddens me for what I did to Daphyne and Jennifer. Oh well they lived.

    Oh wow Ma, you commented!

No really, it’s like snatching a band aid. Hurts for a few seconds (in this case minutes) and then you don’t even remember it happened. I swear the kid was bouncing off the walls in no time showing everyone her new bling. It wasn’t that difficult to watch.

And thanks for the comment. Sometimes I wonder if anyone actually reads this thing. If it weren’t for the web stats and people telling me they like it when I see them… I wouldn’t believe it.

I look at your blog every time…and I love them! Sometimes I feel if I comment too much on someones blog they will feel like I’m stalking them….

We did Jessica’s ears when she was a little baby…I felt mean(it didn’t help that her grandma happened to walk in just at the moment she started crying. Then I accidentaly pulled out one & couldn’t get it back in.
So I decided to wait until Emily was older…that was awful! She screamed every time I touched her ears. Just found out a few years ago that she can only wear silver earrings! Allergic to gold & fake.
So needless to say…Grace is 4 & still has no holes in her ears.

But, I’ve heard it is painless & most of the tears come from being scared of the noise.

Thanks for sharing Kaylee’s milestone with us!

Those pictures make it look like she suffered forever! Two minutes of tears and then asking if she could buy more jewelry. Now, she lays her head in my lap and lets me clean them three times a day. Sweet baby!

Yes, I chose the most dramatic images. The ones that showed her happy to get her ears pierced—then the reality of it all, Ha! Yeah, I could of showed shots of her playing outside the store or showing off her ears, but what fun is that? And besides, I had already put up my camera by then.

@Jake, Yes we asked her if she was sure she wanted them pierced. We explained it would hurt and that she didn’t have to do it then… but she insisted. In fact, she handled it all very well except when the lady botched the left ear. That’s what caused the crying which lasted only a couple of minutes. After that brief upset, she was ecstatic and has been since.
