Recently CP&D completed the first official Selma Visitor Guide, a 32 page magazine showcasing some of what makes Selma such an interesting city. While there, I did a shoot at the Selma House Tea Room — they are running a half-page advertisement and will be featured in the signature dish section under desserts… Here are a few of the shots from that shoot.

This is a beautiful home in Selma, Alabama that has been restored and repurposed as a Tea Room. Perfect for special events and parties, the owner has done a fine job with the place. It might interest you to know that the same people own the Walton Theater.

Shadow Catchers: Sets of Variations

Sometimes you just have to experiment with multiple variations to get just the right look— as you can see, this one was an unusual trial and error that ended well once it ended.

A designer should always expect revisions and never stop trying to meet the needs of his/her client.

Selma’s Walton Theater

On a recent trip to Selma, I was hired to shoot an exterior shot of the old Walton Theater which was recently reopened for business. Below is the final exterior shot and the advertisement I designed for owner is above. The ad will be displayed in the 2012 Selma Visitor Guide — another CP&D project.

For those of you interested or living in Selma… According to the owner, the new DLP Cinema Projector they recently installed is amazing. They should be featuring the new Mission Impossible this Thursday if memory serves me. Anyway, it’s nice to see someone renovate an old building like the Walton Theater.

Shadow Catchers: A Beautiful Transformation

I recently worked on a project for Shadow Catchers, a regular client of mine dealing in art. My original task was to design a full page advertisement featuring one of their best selling pieces of art, and although that design was eventually shelved for another of my designs, the project was a success. Above is the final ad, but below is the project as it evolved:

1. The Location

Clubroom at Hampstead – Montgomery, Alabama

2. The Artwork

Dimensions: 50″ x 60″ framed behind glass

3. The Manipulation

As you can see from the image above and the final ad, the photo manipulation required the addition of the center wall panel, removal of some vents, addition of the spotlight, the painting and several adjustments to the furniture and lighting. It was fun.

The original design was not exactly what they were looking for, but after providing me a little glimpse of what they had envisioned — the piece was a complete success. City Grill Moves to a New Location

Montgomery’s City Grill will be moving to a new location in mid-January and I recently designed an ad to promote the upcoming change of venue. The design was influenced by the lack of material… they hadn’t finished reworking the new location, so there was nothing to photograph. The idea was simple and well refined. What do you think?

A clean advertorial designed for RSVP magazine—this version of the piece is slightly different from the final which will appear in the publication, but it’s the one I preferred. The final piece is very similar, but changes were made to the headline to better match the direction of the editorial.
